The Department for International Trade in Italy is currently seeking to recruit a Cyber, Technology & Smart Cities trade adviser with a good understanding in Advanced Manufacturing. The successful candidate will be based within the British Consulate General in Milan or British Embassy Rome and will actively contribute to the attainment of the team's business objectives of identifying and supporting business opportunities from the UK into Italy. Specifically, the job holder will be appointed to assist the UK technology and advanced engineering businesses in entering the Italian market, and growing their business once established.
Roles and responsibilities:
As part of the existing Trade Team Italy, contribute significantly to priority Sector focus in Technology and Clean growth, holding responsibility to generate new and manage existing pipeline of projects in strategic industries for the UK and the Italian markets, both in terms of business value and volume.
Support the Advanced Engineering Trade Team in Milan to deliver a successful trade export campaign for Italy, working collaboratively with other DIT markets in the Mediterranean region.
Work in synergy with DIT Tech Sector Team and the European Tech Network to support the lead of the organisation of trade campaigns, events (including exhibitions, trade missions, seminars, etc.) and outward visits of Italian personnel to the UK.
Account manage strategic stakeholders including Italian Tech Trade Associations, Telecommunication companies and Technology companies.
Leveraging on this network, support UK providers of high-tech solutions based on AI, 5G, Big Data, Cloud Services, etc.
Provide support to cyber companies and explore areas of collaboration for UK companies with Italian leading companies and stakeholders.
Work with local companies and institutions to identify and exploit business opportunities for UK companies in the Smart Cities area.
Be responsible for specific sub-sectors such as Retail-tech, smart cities and telecommunications.
Manage relevant information sources and reports on activity in accordance with DIT procedures, including accurate recording of projects on DIT's management systems.
The Jobholder will also work on projects with other team members of the Advanced Engineering Team to support export campaigns in strategic areas including intensive use of digital technologies such as cyber security, smart energy, smart mobility, fintech, smart manufacturing.
The resource will also support the Head of the Team in the Security sector and contribute to the Europe South Defence & Security Export Campaign.
The role will be based at the British Consulate in Milan or British Embassy Rome and will require occasional travel in Italy and Europe and to the UK
Fluency at C1 level both in English and Italian according to CEFR Framework*;
- Minimum of 6-12 months of working experience in an international organization or business;
Ability to work effectively and supportively with colleagues and contacts in the immediate and wider team.
Ability to respond flexibly to changing priorities.
Good sense of organisation and communication.
Flexibility and ability to work on multiple projects
Excellent understanding of Italian business dynamics.
Prior exposure in the business private sector, in particular with proven technology and smart cities experience.
Experience of client relationship management skills acquired in a business environment, with a clear commitment to excellent customer service.
- Academic background preferably (but not exclusively) in the fields of Economics and Marketing.
Previous experience in international environments.
Up-to-date IT skills.
This is a full-time fixed-term position with a contract of 12 months, graded AO according to the Civil Service grading structure. The annual gross salary is € 32,369. This includes € 10.33 EDR paid 13 times per year (pro-rata), with double salary payments in June and December. If working less than a full calendar year, the additional salary payments will be pro-rata.
Working hours are 35 hrs per week Monday to Friday, typically from 09.00 – 17.00, with some flexibility.
All staff are enrolled in the Italian state social security and pension schemes, with flexibility to pay into the employee’s private pension scheme if chosen.
The appointment is subject to security clearance, professional background check and the successful completion of a probationary period of 1 month.
All staff employed by the British Consulate General are subject to Italian income tax (IRPEF). However the administration of these tax payments will vary depending on nationality.
Staff recruited locally by British diplomatic missions in Italy are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Italian employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Italy and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
