Main purpose of job: 

We are looking for a high-calibre colleague to join our dynamic team. Your role will be to further strengthen the UK-India Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) relationship. India is currently the second largest investor in the UK. 

You will contribute to the Mumbai based inward investment team including:

  • Account managing some top existing Indian investors in the UK
  • Developing and delivering a strong pipeline of new and existing UK investment opportunities for Indian investors considering the UK as a global destination for their investment ambitions
  • Refining and supporting the delivery of an investment strategy from certain priority sectors
  • Coordinating with the DIT Senior Management Team, India network and HQ on important visits 

You will be the face of the UK Government for inward investment for some significant existing investors. As part of this role, you will be expected to maintain strong and proactive relationships with Indian business and stakeholders encourage thought-leaders and key decision-makers in India to invest in the UK. You will also be required to support the wider DIT India effort across a range of corporate objectives. You will be supported with learning and development, career development and opportunities to travel.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

To promote the UK as the best investment destination for potential and existing Indian investors and to work with them to help them set up and further their operations in the UK. Ensure a healthy pipeline of future investment projects is developed. You will be responsible for delivery against some challenging and competitive ambitions or targets.


To quickly pick up, develop and deliver the investment strategy in certain priority sectors. This will include being the pan India sector lead for FDI in the infrastructure sector.  To support the senior management team in refreshing this strategy on an ongoing basis.


To support Ministerial Visits and trade activities to maximize opportunities for investment contacts to meet visitors from the UK. This will include providing comprehensive and compelling briefing and updates about your accounts, and on occasion accompanying senior colleagues and VIP on their engagements with your accounts.


Language requirements: 

Language: Excellent spoken and written English 

Level of language required: Fluent spoken Hindi, spoken Marathi is desirable.

Learning and development opportunities (and any specific training courses to be completed):

There will be opportunity to attend relevant FDI trainings.


Graduate/postgraduate. Candidates without the required educational qualifications but with exceptional practical experience will be considered.

Essential Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant commercial/business experience, including experience of working with business
  • Proven track record of in-depth understanding of Foreign Direct Investment and of actively developing and maintaining strong business network in the region.
  • Strong analytical and business skills, with experience of searching and identifying significant opportunities for investment into the UK market.
  • Good geographical knowledge and experience of working with Indian businesses in the Mumbai/Pune/wider Maharashtra area.
  • Experience of building capacity across a network and delivering through others


  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills.
  • Ability to influence, persuade and articulate key messages including when drafting written documents.
  • You will need to show a solid track record of dealing with senior level decision makers in the business world with minimal supervision.
  • Experience of account management of large Indian conglomerates
  • Ability to multitask including manage multiple deadlines in parallel.

For other than BHC candidates, salary will be all-inclusive of INR 110,484 per month together with a 12% provident fund and 6% Superannuation Fund

Additionally, the BHC offers a great benefits package that includes annual domiciliary medical cover, plus a Group Hospitalisation Scheme with INR 500,000 floater cover for your immediate family. If you are a spouse of a staff member already employed with British High Commission, you will be covered under the family medical cover of your spouse.

No relocation or any other related costs or assistance will be provided.

Please note - BHC does not deduct tax at source and employees are required to ensure that any requirements of local income-tax law are complied with in full. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
