The Maintenance Assistant is a key part of the Corporate Services team at the British Embassy in Mexico. Their main duties include working on multiple maintenance and repair activities and supporting the Properties team with support tasks as needed. The person selected for this position will:
1. Work in a structured environment, performing work related to technical issues or day-to-day maintenance. Their decision-making will be based on previously defined processes and procedures.2. Their work will be primarily manual, with basic and direct tasks. They will also provide support for other activities, depending on operational needs.3. The responsibilities of this position include technical operational tasks and some administrative tasks.
The work to be performed will be closely monitored by the Line Manager. Maintenance issues are routine in nature, primarily the same, and are often resolved with guidance from other colleagues or through experience. Decisions are straightforward, and there will be little discretion to deviate from standard operating procedures. The selected person must have problem-solving skills and the ability to stay focused on their tasks while working independently.On some occasions, the Maintenance Assistant will be required to support the logistics team, managing embassy staff, diplomatic personnel, visitors, among others.

Respond to corrective maintenance requests for all apartments, both owned and leased by the Embassy, and perform scheduled preventative maintenance when required. This also includes offices and the Official Residence. 80%
Drinking water and sanitation testing; gas testing and inspections; alarm and sensor testing required by the UK Department of Health and Safety. 15%

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.

Working patterns:
Full-time 48 hours per week (or the maximum legally permitted by local legislation)
The British Embassy in Mexico has a flexible working policy. Employees are expected to work flexible hours depending on requirements and operational needs.Overtime will be paid for hours worked (with prior authorization) beyond the 48-hour week. For this position, remote work is not possible, and you must report to the office Monday through Friday.
