The British Government have funded a Criminal Justice Advisor (CJA) to work within France to develop collaboration in organised immigration crime with a view to opening investigation, dismantling networks, prosecuting offenders and pursuing the proceeds of crime. That post is based in Paris but involves frequent travel across France including Boulogne, Calais, Dunkirk, Lille, Dieppe, Bordeaux, Rennes and further afield depending on cases of interest.

The position advertised, based in the British Embassy in Paris is to provide high level support through the undertaking of a range of tasks for the CJA, to support engagement with stakeholders in the criminal justice system and to support the successful and timely collaboration often in real time in order to support UK/FR operations. The role will involve legal research and therefore legal or law enforcement experience is essential. There will be a degree of autonomy in the role with an expectation to review, analyse and progress work streams, identify improvements to process and take forward implementation on behalf of CJA.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • External liaison building and maintaining close working relationships with UK law enforcement and representatives across France amongst law enforcement and criminal justice system;
  • Maintaining confidentiality in all areas of work;
  • Effectively communicating and managing relationships with a wide and diverse range of stakeholders displaying efficiency and sensitivity;
  • Effectively managing resources and being accountable to the budget holder for expenditure incurred;
  • Maintaining and supporting effective working relationships with managers and colleagues.
  • Researching legal and non-legal topics as required and presenting the findings logically and coherently;
  • Providing administrative support in maintaining casework records and statistics for reporting purposes;
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly reports/updates;
  • Case management of UK Mutual legal assistance (MLA) ad extradition requests including initial review and triage;
  • Delivering project work to enhance bi-lateral cooperation and progress UK priorities.
  • Proficient written and oral English and independent French is essential;
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills;
  • Organisational skills with ability to demonstrate initiative, autonomy and self motivation;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects at pace;
  • IT skills including MS Office;
  • Self starter with enthusiasm of energy, able to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Results driven with excellent attention to detail.
  •  Some French or English criminal law experience or law enforcement experience;
