The British Embassy in Spain is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Senior Advisor to join the Department for International Trade (DIT) team in Barcelona.

The successful candidate will have the important role of facilitating contracts between British CROs (Clinical Research Organisations) and Spanish pharmaceutical companies. S/he will also support Spanish companies in the Life Sciences industries set up subsidiaries in the UK.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Reinforce the relationships, on behalf of DIT Barcelona, with the companies in Spain that are looking to outsource their clinical trials.
  • Identify CRO’s in the UK that can deliver the clinical trials that the Spanish companies are willing to outsource. We expect the candidate to have knowledge and contacts in the CRO environment in the UK.
  • Support Spanish companies set up subsidiaries in the UK as part of a virtual team with other DIT colleagues in the UK.
  • Knowledge and contacts in the CRO (Clinical Research Organisation) environment in the UK. At least 3 years experience working in a professional position in this sector
  • Experience in managing projects.
  • Highly effective client relationship management skills.
  • Negotiation, being able to identify win-wins.
  • Good communications skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • Able to take responsibility for making informed decisions and to competently address any problems or issues that arise within their business sector areas.
  • Able to write well organised reports and databases to inform about the progress of the project.
  • Communication skills in Spanish are desirable but optional.
  • Good level of written and spoken Spanish.

This is a full-time position of 5 working days (37.5 hours per week) with the duration of a maternity cover.

The successful candidate is subject to a confirmation of a background check, security clearance and the successful completion of a probationary period.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Spanish Social Security Scheme and will therefore not be entitled to any gratuity from the Embassy based on gross annual salary.

Regarding taxation, the Embassy is a Diplomatic Mission with tax exempt status and does not collect taxes for other States. Employees are fully responsible for payment of Spanish income tax at the legally required rate.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Spain are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Spanish employment law.
