Community Liaison

The British Embassy in Bucharest is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking to recruit a Community Liaison Officer (CLO).

To work closely with Post Management for the well-being of all staff at Post, primarily as a provider of support and an advocate for UK-based staff and families on family and community issues. Key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Information gathering for families, partners and officers (including those not yet at Post) - including on spouse / partner employment at Post and children's education; feedback on adult education and training opportunities; medical information; single officer and foreign-born spouse/partner issues; recreational facilities; social matters; and completion of annual reports including Diplomatic Service Families Association (DSFA) Spouse and Partner Annual Employment Report and the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) survey;

 

  • Welfare at Post – including welcoming single officers, couples and families as well as officers on temporary duty, to ensure as smooth an integration as possible into the life of the Post community; following up to check that the settling in process is working; being a source of referral and support where questions, problems and difficulties arise; providing short Post community induction training; to lead on team building and social events for all British Embassy Bucharest staff;

 

  • Advocate for UK based staff and dependants in addressing issues of importance with Post authorities, including as their representative on both the Embassy Board and the Crisis Management Committee, as well as acting as the chief link between Post and DSFA in London. Part of the role will involve working with the Embassy’s Corporate Services Team to resolve matters relating to Health & Safety, accommodation and welfare;

 

  • Communicate effectively on community and social matters within the Post (to both UK-based and local staff);

 

  • Resource management of Post Welcome Pack, CLO homepage on the FCO’s intranet / SharePoint, input on coordinating the Post report and fact sheet.
  • Fluency in English language (both oral and written);
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Concrete experience in working across a wide range of stakeholders and cultures with sensitivity and effectiveness;
  • Evidence of competent IT skills (MS Office and Internet).

This is a part-time position of 5 days (20 hours net per week) for two years fixed-term contract which may be extended by mutual agreement. Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.

The annual leave entitlement is 21 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.

Monthly salary is 2313 RON gross. In addition, staff are entitled to a 13th month salary pro rata and may receive a performance related bonus at year end. Staff also receive meal vouchers and a monthly subscription to a medical centre.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 90 days.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Romanian employment law.
