Main purpose of job:

The primary purpose of the role is to assist HMPO by carrying out verification checks on supporting document received in of support of complex British passport applications received from India and the distribution of British Passports to the VACs.  The successful candidate will have to consistently meet targets for quality efficiency and customer service.

Roles and responsibilities 

The key responsibilities of the job will be to

  • Carry our verification checks on documents submitted with passport applications as directed by HMPO via the Case Management tool.   
  • Establish and maintain a good relationship with local government officials.  
  • Correspond effectively with local government offices and other UK departments to assist in the verifications of documents. 
  • Obtain further documents from applicants where necessary as requested by HMPO and verify with local authorities their authenticity as and when advised by HMPO. 
  • Use the Case management tool to maintain clear and concise electronic records of referrals received and checks carried out. 
  • Passport Pass back – accepts the delivery into BHC then sort and arrange for onward delivery to the VAC’s. 
  • Passport Passback – deal with any returns from the VACs. 

 

Additional responsibilities will be to:

  • The postholder may be required to carry out other duties within the scope of the grade and within the limits of their skill, competence and training.

The skills/attributes of the successful applicant will include:

  • Prioritising in a busy work environment, working within a team, delivering to deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong IT skills – in particular be able to use Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Able to speak and write fluently in English is mandatory.
  • Able to speak fluently in Hindi & Punjabi is mandatory.

Experience  in dealing with the general public, institutions and other government offices.

Language Requirement :

  • English (mandatory), Punjabi (mandatory), Hindi (mandatory).
  • An ability to speak and write in English to a high level is mandatory.
  • An ability to speak in Punjabi and Hindi is mandatory.

Applicants who have had previous experience in passport and/or visa work.

Language Requirement :

An ability to write in Punjabi and Hindi is desirable but not mandatory.
