Department for International Trade (DIT)

We are willing to consider applicants from any of the countries we have offices in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Main purpose of job:

The Department for International Trade (DIT) secures UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment, and championing free trade. In this role you will champion internal monitoring and reporting across all of our teams based in Latin America and the Caribbean, constantly evolving how we measure and demonstrate our impact.

Roles and responsibilities:

This is an exciting role right at the heart of the DIT’s operations in Latin America and the Caribbean. We are looking for a numerate candidate, with an interest in economics, the ability to communicate clearly and a track record of working as part of a team. The successful candidate will have regular contact with a broad range of colleagues in 18 countries within the region, in the UK and beyond, and provide important support to senior management, who depend on a solid evidence base to inform its decisions.

The strategic goal of all of our work is to significantly strengthen the UK’s absolute and relative trade and investment relationship with LATAC over the next five years. To this end, our teams lead work on evolving the UK’s trade policy in Latin America and the Caribbean, promoting the UK in the region and vice versa, and supporting British exports, overseas direct investment and foreign direct investment to the UK across a range of sectors. This work is underpinned by the UK’s Export Strategy (2018), which aims to increase British exports from 30 to 35 per cent of GDP, and the UK’s Industrial Strategy (2017), which seeks to boost productivity by backing businesses to create good jobs and increase the earning power of people throughout the UK with investment in skills, industries and infrastructure.

This is an ideal position for someone with the ability to work collaboratively within an expert, enterprising, engaged and inclusive organisation with global reach. The job will be challenging and will require the successful candidate to take responsibility for delivering both quickly and to a high quality standard.
