Main purpose of job:
This is an exciting opportunity to assist with the delivery of the Newton and Prosperity Funds in Thailand, supporting day to day administrative tasks, collection of data, support to management of the programme activities, management of event logistics and responding to external enquiries.
Roles and responsibilities:
The British Embassy in Bangkok operates a series of sustainable development programmes funded by two UK global development funds, the Prosperity Fund, which provides technical assistance to support reforms in Thailand, and the Newton Fund, which provides funding for scientific programmes to tackle development challenges in areas such as health, agriculture and economic development.
The cross-government Prosperity Fund (PF) was established under the 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR) with the primary aim of supporting growth in recipient countries and thereby reducing poverty. As such, it represents a key component of the prosperity pillar of the UK Aid Strategy. By delivering high impact, strategic multi-year programmes, across high opportunity countries, regions and sectors, the Fund will help create opportunities for international business, including UK companies. As the UK leaves the EU, an even more outward-looking global Britain investing and trading with the fastest growing markets will become increasingly important.
The UK’s Newton Fund programme builds partnerships between research and innovation organisations and institutes, as well as between individual researchers from the UK and partner countries. In Thailand the programme supports joint UK-Thai research and innovation with the aim of using science to support the social and economic development of Thailand.
The jobholder in this role, will provide support to the four Programme Managers covering both funds, but with greater focus on the Newton Fund (covered by a single programme manager) and Prosperity Fund’s Health Programme. They will spend 50% of their time on the Newton Fund and 50% on the Prosperity Fund programmes operating in Thailand, but with a greater focus on the Prosperity Fund’s Health Programme.
With the guidance and supervision of the Programme Manager, the Programme Support Officer will be responsible for the following tasks:

Full time role (36 hours/week). Flexible working may be available (Embassy core hours are 1000-1600 Mon-Thurs and 1000-1300 Friday). Remote working occasionally is also possible.
In late 2019 the Embassy will move from the current premises on Wireless Rd to new accommodation in the Sathorn area.
